You need to make sure that you treat your new lawn like a newly born baby - look after it! Feed it, water it, caress it, talk to it if you have to, but most of all do not neglect it. The first two to three weeks are the "critical phase" in the establishment of a new lawn from turf. All too often, lawn owners have a new lawn laid then fail to look after it and then blame the company who supplied or laid the turf when problems develop after a few weeks later. Follow these simple rules to ensure that your newly laid lawn gets a head start.

Laying a lawn is just like home DIY. You must ensure that the quality of the paint applied to the walls is the best you can afford. The same applies to lawn turf. Just because it looks green in the turf field does not mean that it is quality lawn turf. Like paint, you get what you pay for. If you want a meadow lawn then some locally grown meadow turf from a local Farmer will suffice. Should you want a lawn of quality from the onset then buying turf from a reputable supplier is so important as it will meet numerous quality standards before it leaves the field en route to you.

Red Thread Disease in you lawns season is now upon us.
Warm and wet environmental conditions are ideal for an outbreak of this unsightly lawn disease. It is fairly easy to prevent an outbreak of this lawn disease. The majority of lawn were fertilised in the spring months and now the benefit of that feed is wearing off. They say that every Mans' home is his castle, so long as it has a patch of lawn that he can mow weekly and stand back and admire once the job has been done. When most people view mowing the lawn each week a chore, one retired Greenkeeper, Stan Hardwick has gone to the extreme and has 365 lawn mowers to choose from dependant upon his 'mood' and needs of his lawn on any particular day.
Clearly some of the lawn mowers, some dating back to 1862 are a little large and over the top for the size of his lawn, as we all know that size is important when it comes to the right choice of mower for the size of lawn you manage.

We often get asked by lawn owners the best remedy of controlling weed grasses in lawns. Just because it is green, it does not mean that it is a grass or grasses you want in your green sward.
A lawn should have nothing in it except good healthy desirable turf grasses but this is often not the case. Weed grasses will react violently to changes in climatic conditions such as drought or fertilisation or selective weed control or a change in soil moisture.
Clumps of weed grasses of which there could be many are very unsightly, and more often than not, the weed grasses will colonise into large clumps across a lawn.
