The Team at Grass Clippings are always happy to receive direct requests via email from lawn owners seeking more specific advice to their lawn problem. This request from an amateur lawn owner concerns the desire to turn an area of once paddock grassland into a lawn area. We could have replied to the reader personally, which we of course did, but the information provided will be of use to all of our readers so compiling a technical post on the lawn blog seemed more appropriate in this instance.
An old Groundsman’s saying is to give the paddock or grass area a good 'weed and feed' to see what you have got left to play with.

The worms do a splendid job in the soil just beneath the grass crown, but it is a pity that their casts pose such a problem for lawn owners. Worm casts on a lawn and any sports or amenity turf surface can cause severe problems for more than one reason.
Soil deposited on the turf surface will quickly clog up and stick to the moving parts of cylinder and rotary mower and also accumulate around rollers and wheels and operators feet giving them the classical 1970's platform shoes in no time!

We all live busy lives and often the garden and lawn come at the bottom of the pile when it comes to time allocation. Any money spent on a lawn is a good investment so long as it follows the flow chart of lawn care science and the timing is correct relative to the lawn's natural growth cycle.

Managing and owning a lawn can lead to a garden shed full of lawn machinery that may only get the light of day a few times a year. Buying a fleet consisting of lawn scarifier, lawn aerator, lawn mower and lawn sprayer to name a few, can add pounds to your capital and maintenance budgets. Why not consider hiring the lawn care machinery instead - from within your local area too.
The traditional lawn renovation season will soon be upon us. Your local bowls, cricket, tennis or croquet club will be planning their turf renovation programmes and booking the necessary equipment and products to make the renovation process flow smoothly. Demand for lawn scarifiers and lawn aerators can be high during the peak autumn lawn renovation months so booking early to avoid the rush is important.
