A healthy grass plant needs regular food to survive and this time of year it is important to remember to apply an autumn and winter lawn fertiliser to your lawns to set them up for the cold and peril of winter. All to often we hear horror stories of lawns only being fertilised once a year - arghhh. The makings of a good horror story for Halloween weekend at your lawn's expense.
Autumn and winter lawn fertiliser will have less Nitrogen but more Phosphorus and Potassium to feed the roots and assist in improving the vitality of the grass plant. The roles of these important lawn food nutrients is discussed in greater detail here

Chafer Beetle Larvae are the larvae of the Common Chafer Beetle or more commonly known as the May Bug that can be seen flying around on warm early summer evenings. Chafer grubs are white, comma shaped, fleshy grubs with brown heads and 3 pairs of legs on the front segments of their body. Grubs live for 1-3 years before adult beetles emerge. Patches of dead or dying grass similar to that caused by leatherjackets are caused by the grubs. Early and correct pest identification is so important.

Moss and Moss control in lawns is a practice normally performed in the autumn and spring lawn care months. If the grass plants activity has thinned or weakened over the past 12 months, now is the time to start Moss control and eradication and some mechanical operations just ahead of over seeding the lawn to turn the tide on the moss and re populate with existing or new grasses whilst the soil is still warm.

Worm casts on any sports, amenity turf or lawn surface can cause severe problems for more than one reason.
The worms are excellant for the turf and soil, their casts are not!
Soil deposited on the turf surface will quickly clock up and stick to the moving parts of cylinder and rotary mowers and also accumulate around rollers and wheels.

The Turfgrass Growers' Association has won a three-year campaign to ensure that turf at the Olympic Park is supplied by a member of the organisation.
The tender documents for turf for the Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) have specified that "the supplier shall be a member of the Turfgrass Growers' Association (TGA), to TGA quality standards".
The Turfgrass Growers Association (TGA) is the only professional organisation in the UK and Ireland dedicated to the advancement of quality turf production.
