Pitchcare ponders!

Pitchcare is one of the most extensively used resources on the internet for the turf care professional. If you are an amateur working on a bowling green or private lawn you need not feel excluded and it is a must to sign up.

The forum is a great place to listen to goon solid and grounded advice on all subjects from insect control to products and materials.

Pitchcare claims to have over 26,000 members which is quite an achievement!

Looking through the forum this morning I noticed an interesting little question by John about scarifying in the winter. Of course, you will need to register to get the rest of the story.

"Something that has been troubling me - some lawn care companies offer winter scarification (Dec - Feb). I can only think that this is for cash flow rather than any good to the turf.

Obviously, spring and autumn have traditionally been best. Can anyone give any other justification? Is it really ok to do this and improve a lawn?

Be interested to hear - perhaps I am missing something."
