Norfolk County Council use Sheep instead of Mowers

Council Chiefs at Norfolk County Council are training Sheep to trim the grass surrounding their council Headquarters in Norwich in a bid to reduce their carbon footprint.

County hall bosses are keen to create a cloven-hoofed footprint instead of an anti-environmental carbon one through fuelled grass-cutting machines although they admit that they are at the early stages in evaluating the possibility of having four legged lawn mowers at this stage.

Sheep_mowers The idea is being backed by the National Farmers' Union.

NFU regional spokesman Brian Finnerty said: "These sorts of techniques are used in wildlife and nature reserves - so why not other areas?  It's certainly good for the environment and the Sheep were probably on the site long before the buildings arrived."

"As long as they were fenced in and were safe from dogs, who often scare sheep, then it could work."

But the council should be warned sheep may not be as green as they at first seem.  The animals have a tendency to burp and fart producing a lot of methane which can damage the ozone. In fact the waste produced by livestock such as sheep and downs has been found to cause a problem for the environment.

Perhaps we should develop a new clone of 'Dolly the Sheep' to be employed by all Local Authorities to mow our green and pleasant land!  After all, they do not take time off sick, require holidays and pensions, nor take long tea breaks and moan when it is raining or damage machinery on all the litter that unfortunatley lands up on our grass verges from careless litter droppers who do not give a monkey of its impact on the environment and wildlife.

The threat of the sheep producing 'hot air' should not be a problem.  Parliament is full of them.  Good bye Tony Blair and hello Gordon Brown, God help us all!
