The Shooting Star Children's Hospice
In December 2007 we heard a news item on the Capital Radio Breakfast Show hosted by Johnny Vaughan and Lisa Snowdon. As part of their Help a London Child Christmas Appeal they were trying to raise funds to help some needy children in London. The recipient of the money raised Last December through the Appeal will be used to build a Play Therapy Room in a new extension at The Shooting Star Children’s Hospice based in Hampton in Middlesex.
The new Cosmic Therapy Zone building was completed in March this year and our offer to renovate an existing lawn and incorporate it into a new lawn area around the buildings was put into action.
We stone-buried the existing lawn which is a bit like using a rotovator but a bit trendier and imported 20 tonnes of top soil before power harrowing it in with our Agria power unit and attachment. Our turf supplier Q Lawns kindly donated 360 square metres of their excellant turf which was quickly layed on the prepared surface by The Lawn Company team and army of volunteers.
Upon completion of the lawn installation, Shooting Star Children's Hospice, Chief Executive, Dalton Leong said 'I am really pleased with the offer of assistance and the new lawns are taking shape - a sign of good workmanship in my book'. Dalton himself is currently undertaking a Charity trek up Kilimanjaro raising funds for the Hospice. Mike Seaton said 'I was born in Twickenham and in all my time of running my own businesses had never done a charitable job, offering my skills to help others and allowing them to get so much enjoyment out of a lawn without the cost. We are very grateful to our suppliers for donating soil, machinery and turf'.
The building, which is 95.8 square metres in footprint was officially opened by Lisa Snowdon of 95.8 Capital FM Radio and radio colleague Margherita Taylor on 26th March 2009. See pictures of the opening here. You can see Managing Director of The Lawn Company, Mike Seaton on the back row, second in from the right standing next to celebrity supporter Bobby Davro. Also attending the opening was Tony Hadley of Spandau Ballet, a Patron of the charity and Shane Richie who all provided some entertaining banter during the offical photo session.
The Lawn Company Team will continue to look after the lawns with regular treatments to keep them looking great for such a good cause.
