Summer Lawn Care

Grassclippings - Team GBIt's a busy few weeks for sport with the Olympics in full swing and Team GB trying to add medals to the leader board.

What is also remarkable about the past few weeks is that the rain of the past three months has eased giving way to sunshine and some fantastic temperatures in the South East at least when the thermometer last week touched 30 degrees.  It's almost gone the other way too quickly!

Many a professional Turf Manager and Gardener are finally able to stop fire fighting with the lawn and can at last get a decent cut with the lawn mower rather than just taking the top off the lawns to keep them under control.  They can now put some definition into their swathes of green and mow the lawns multi directional without the threat of a heavy shower.

The deluge of rain would have leached out any available nutrients out of the upper surface of the lawn and as a result, there are huge Red Thread Disease attacks on lawns where the tuf grasses are crying out for fertilier.

The weeds in the lawns are now plentiful and also moss, rare for almost August but a sure sign of the wet weather we have had.  Time to get rid of anything that should not be in your lawns.  You should only have desirable turf grasses in your lawns.

If you have weeds and moss in your lawns, now is the time to control them and also to fertilise your lawn to give it some vigour and the best chance to get through the summer months and wear and tear.
