You can tell by the weather today sadly that we are embarking on a Bank Holiday weekend.

The grass growth cycle is really fast now after the late spring and the lawn weeds are out in force.  You should not be mowing your lawns weekly leaving them around 30mm if you want a deep, dense and lush lawn(s) to enjoy.

Zara Phillips helps John Deere celebrate 50 Years

Here’s something you don’t see every day – a bona fide member of the royal family sitting proudly astride a John Deere.

Ok so it’s not a tractor, but Zara Phillips hopped on a John Deere lawnmower at the Chelsea Flower Show to help the company celebrate 50 years of manufacturing lawn and turf equipment.

The company, already well established as a tractor manufacturer, entered the new lawn care market in 1963 in the US.

Germ free Lawns this Bank Holiday

The average British barbecue contains twice as many germs as a toilet seat, a disturbing new study has revealed.

Hygiene expert Dr Lisa Ackerley found the typical outdoor grill contains a staggering 1.7 million microbes per 100cm sq.

That makes it the grubbiest surface in the garden, with a worrying 124 per cent more germs than a toilet seat. Remarkably, these tests – carried out for cleaning brand Jeyes as in Fluid - were conducted on barbecues that looked clean to the naked eye.

RHS Chelsea Flower Show reaches 100 Years

The Royal Horticultural Society Chelsea Flower Show starts next week in the grounds of the world famous Chelsea Hospital in south west London.

Is your lawn harming your Dogs?

Dogs are ingesting, inhaling and otherwise being exposed to garden and lawn chemicals that have been associated with bladder cancer, according to a new study.

The paper, which will appear in the July issue of Science of the Total Environment, also found that wind could carry the chemicals to untreated properties. The researchers also found that dogs, once contaminated by the chemicals, can transfer them to their owners.

The chemicals are common herbicides containing the following: 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D), 4-chloro-2- methylphenoxypropionic acid (MCPP) and/or dicamba.
