Britain's Best Lawn opens up the media floodgates
For
eight years Paskett PR have been organising the Briggs & Stratton annual
Britain’s Best Lawn competition in conjunction with the magazine Garden
News.
Each time they generate a significant volume of media coverage,
usually centred around the home of the winner.
For two years running their panel of judges, headed by gardening
journalist and author of ‘Lawns: Grow & Maintain Healthy Grass’
(Collins) Martin Fish, selected winning lawns in the same Cumbrian
village of Portinscale alongside Derwent Water in the Lake District. In
year two this resulted in considerable regional media coverage in
newspapers, on television and radio.
Within a matter of a few days the retired hospital specialist had appeared several times on national television, national radio, been interviewed by numerous national newspapers and virtually every radio station and newspaper in Oxfordshire.
“We simply could not believe the level of interest,” says Paskett PR account director Gemma Sharpe. “The real story is that Dr Ogg is a fanatical gardener, spending up to 12 hours a day working in his fantastic garden during the summer. When he appeared on ITV’s Alan Titchmarsh Show we had a double bonus because starring alongside him when Alan was interviewing was another Paskett client, Allett Mowers.
“In total the advertising equivalent value of the all the coverage we achieved for Britain’s Best Lawn 2012 was more than £1/2 million.”
For 2013 Garden News and Martin Fish will, once again, be working with the Briggs & Stratton and Paskett teams and the new addition to the judging team will be Dr Chisholm Ogg.
“He won’t be easy to please or impress,” says Ian Small.
