Blooming Lawns in The South East

Grass Clippings - South & South East in BloomSouth & South East in Bloom is part of the Britain in Bloom, campaign  where Boroughs, communities, residents, businesses can work together to improve their  environment.

They have three main objectives:

1. See an increase in the number of people involved in gardening and horticulture and to see the standard maintained or rise wherever possible.

2. To see improvement in how we care for our environment, including how we care for scarce resources such as water.

3. How we come together as communities and make a contribution to the above by getting involved and making our Neighbourhoods, Villages, Towns & cities better places to live.

More often than not, the judging of horticultural competetitions and events does not always include the quality of the turf or green sward of a park or garden and we queried this when we received a sponsorship request from the team responsible for South & South East in Bloom.  Below is their reply:

'You may be surprised to know that we consider lawns and turf care as part of our assessments as lawns are an intrinsic part of good horticulture.  So we include them in our overall assessments and judging in domestic areas, public parks and gardens and where applicable in business parks and community gardens across our region.

While we do not have a specific lawn category we do have a considerable number of good examples of the  genre and judges are able to nominate these for a special judges awards.

Hope this clarifies the position and how we value and encourage gardeners both domestic and professional to maintain these traditional features.'

Kind regards

PH
