Autumn Leaves

Lawn Shop - Autumn Lawn Care After some interesting weather during our british summer, the trees are turning a fifty shades of brown and autumn is finally here.

Now is the time to start working on your lawn before too many leaves fall on it and the frosts appear.  Your thoughts should be warming towards fertilising your lawn and it is not too late to apply a summer fertiliser at the full rate or apply it at half the summer rate.  The clever technology of The Lawn Shop Granular Lawn Fertilisers means that the nutrients will stop releasing once it gets cooler yet when the soil warms up in the spring, it will stop releasing again - clever!

Time to kill any weeds or moss to get the surface clean before the autumn progresses and treat those worm casts before the earthworm throw up their casts onto the surface of the lawn.   Don't under estimate how many worms your lawn can have per a single square metre as the minimum can be around 45 and the maximum recorded 170!  Actual worm cast numbers of between 45 and 119 per a single square metre have been recorded with the average 45.  That's a lot of sticky soil on the surface of a lawn in amongst the grass plants.  We do not want to kill the worms but deter them from entering the upper surface of the lawn and depositing their burrows soil on the surface of the lawn.  See CastClear - Lawn Worm Suppressant for more details.

Scarification and Aeration and over seeding with new grass seed are also important tasks to perform in the autumn.
