Government to tax lawn mowers

Lawn Mower With the budget only a few weeks past, the current Government really does not know how to behave at times to win over voters.

They dream up new taxes for the things we enjoy in life, like sugar tax and then tax once again the taxable income we have earnt when we spending our cash on filling the car, food shopping and insurances to name a few.  They tax our savings and pensions and even our homes when we buy or sell them.  Nightmare!

Now your trusty lawn mower is under the microscope.

The Conservatives are proposing to announced a green tax on petrol engine lawn mowers after research Scientists from Imperial College London have discovered that the petrol guzzlers are contributing a significant volume of Carbon Dioxide into the atmosphere, affecting global warming and raising pollution levels in the summer growing season when lawn mowers are really going for it in gardens right across the UK.

A typical lawn mower blade will turn at around 60 mph and omits sufficient exhaust fume volumes to that of a small 1.3 litre car over an 8 hour mowing session. The car is taxed so why not the lawn mower is their argument. The car exhaust has a catalytic converter thus reducing the carbon dioxide release into the air, the lawn mower exhaust does not so all the harmful carbon particles are released.

Local Authority bosses are fuming as they carry a large fleet of ride on and pedestrianised lawn mowers. Leicestershire County Council for one has just spent over £6,000 on satellite navigation technology for its fleet of 14 ride on mowers. 'We could do without this additional tax on our budgets' said a Spokesman from the Council.
