March Lawn Care Tips

The Spring Equinox 2022 in the Northern Hemisphere will be at 15:33 on Sunday, 20th March which is the official 1st day of Spring.

March 1st is often heralded to to the 1st day of Spring and the Daffodils are really showing a burst of vibrant yellow blooms across the Country.

With storm Dudley, Eunice and Franklin safely behind us, your thoughts may be more leaning towards repairing your fence or shed rather than your lawn!

If you have not yet mown your lawn, now is the time to get the mower out of the shed and give the lawns their first mow of the season.  Just take the top off the turf grasses, so no more than 25% of the total growth. 

Once mown, take a long hard look at the surface vegetation, which will include all or some of the following - desirable, turf grasses, weed grasses, weeds, moss and worm casts.

It is time to treat your lawn for moss by applying Soluble Iron and the Lawn Worm Casts can also be controlled.  Once we get some rain the worm population and activity will greatly increase, leaving unsightly mounds of soil on the surface of the lawn.  You should also be considering giving your lawn its initial spring fertiliser feed and then re apply every three months throughout the year.
